“Do not cry that I have left, give praise that I was here.”
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Doris E. Parks. Mom left us for her eternal home on April 2, 2015 at The Dr. George Dumont Hospital. Born in Fredericton, NB in June 1928, she was the daughter of the late Garnet and Elsie ( Morehouse) McCoombs. Mom was predeceased by her husband and our father, Gerald B. (Gerry)Parks in 1983.
Doris was a loving and devoted mother to her three children, daughter Beverly Dixon (Bill) of Moncton, her sons, Richard Parks (Shelley) of Fredericton and Robin Parks (Cheryl) of Calgary. A cherished grandmother to Krista and Kami Dixon of Moncton, Kaitlyn Parks of Calgary, great granddaughter, Bryanna Dixon, Moncton and one step-grandson, Matthew McElman and family of Fredericton. She is also survived by a sister in law Edith Parks and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. Raised by her foster parents, mom’s cousins were like her sisters. Isabelle Hamill, Ruby Clanfield and Martha Sparkes predeceased her.
Doris was a homemaker and devout member of St. Andrews Anglican Church, Newcastle. She loved to travel, watch curling both live and on TV and cheered the Blue Jays on. She was a member of the St. Andrews Ladies Church Guild and Altar Guild, Miramichi Rebekkah Lodge, The Order of the Eastern Star and had volunteered with Meals on Wheels. More than anything, mom loved a good laugh! She had a quick wit and thoroughly enjoyed her Monday afternoon Rummoli group and Friday night suppers with friends. She was known to sing a good version of Take Me Home To Bartibogue which family enjoyed as recently as late fall when she visited Calgary. Mom was a strong lady. She handled her cancer diagnosis in the same fashion that she lived her life, with courage, strength and determination. She was blessed with many, many good friends.
The family will receive visitors at Bell’s Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. The Funeral Service will be held from St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Newcastle on Monday, April 6, 2015 at 11AM with The Venerable Richard Steeves officiating. Burial will take place in the Miramichi Cemetery at a later date.
The family would like to thank Dr. Schaefer of Miramichi and the staff at the Dr. George Dumont Hospital for the care and kindness extended to Doris.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Andrews Anglican Church or a charity of your choice.
