Miramichi – Lucy Louise Estey, widow of the late Jack Estey, of the Miramichi Senior Citizen’s Home and formerly of Water St. (Loggieville), passed away at her residence on Tuesday May 12, 2015.

Born in Millerton, on May 4, 1919, she was the daughter of the late William and Annie E. (Scott) Betts.

Lucy graduated from the Victoria Public Hospital in Fredericton as a Registered Nurse. She nursed for a short time in VPH, then worked primarily as a private duty nurse until her marriage to Jack, in 1945.

Her early married life was spent in St. George and Fredericton. She moved to Miramichi with Jack in 1952; and with the exception of ten years when Jack worked in Halifax, she has lived in Miramichi ever since. She was a member of Knox United Church and especially enjoyed all her years in the church choir.

Though Lucy did not get involved in sports until later in life, she liked everything she tried; from bowling to curling and especially golf.

She loved the Miramichi Golf Club and golfed right up until the age of 94. During her time as a member of the club, she served on a number of committees and maintained an active role in the life of the club.

She is survived by three daughters, Carol Estey (John Boudreau), Joyce LeBelle (Peter), all of Miramichi and Judy Estey (John Mosher), of Lunenburg, N.S.; four grandchildren, Tobi, Kelli, Mark and Erin; four great grandchildren, Abby, Emma, Spencer and Cooper.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Jack, in 2007; two sisters, Margaret (Maggie) and Lillian and four brothers, Irvine, Arthur, Ephraim and Byron.

By her request there will be no visiting at the funeral home. The public are invited to attend a memorial service to be held from Knox United Church, on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at 3 pm, conducted by Rev. Charlene Maguire MacKnight, followed by a reception at the F.P. Loggie Hall. Interment will be in the family lot at Pine Grove Cemetery, Miramichi.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home, the Miramichi Hospital Foundation or Knox United Church, would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, telephone 773-3492 or messages of condolence may be sent online to www.adamsfh.ca
