It is with great shock and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather, George William Gilmore on July 25, 2015.
George William was born on November 7, 1947 in New York City, the second child of George Edward Gilmore and of the late Verna Christina (Dunnett) Gilmore.
George has been truly adored and will be greatly missed by his beloved wife and soul mate, Twila Dawn (Silliker) Gilmore, his children Carol Christina, George Matthew, and Ruth Madeline, his father George Edward Gilmore, his sister Carol Suzanne Reed, his brother-in-law Everett, his daughter-in-law Cara, his son-in-law Jordan, his parents-in-law Carman and Ruth Silliker, his sister-in-law Melanie, and his ten grandchildren ages 1-21. Carol’s children: Nathaniel Addison, Benjamin Nicholas, Christina Grace, Lincoln Montgomery, and Gillian Cassandra; Matthew’s children: George Samuel, William Zachary, and Gabriel Matthew; and Ruth’s children: Madeline Emily, and Caedmon Stanley David.
George was a devoted and passionate husband, a patient and loving father, and a playful and proud grandfather. He was a strong and caring advocate for those most in need and consistently demonstrated both wisdom and humility.
As a boy, George made the long car ride every summer to visit his mother’s family in Sillikers. It was during one of those visits that he unknowingly crossed paths with his future soul mate. He was first taken with Twila when he spotted her as a teenager as he walked through her grandparents’ yard (his grandparents lived next door). It was not long until they knew they were destined to be together forever.
George and Twila established their home in South Esk where they raised their family and operated their land surveying business. George’s chosen profession allowed him to combine his passion for the outdoors, geography and history and their home office allowed them to spend time with each other and their children.
For George, paradise was spending cherished moments with his darling Twila floating down the Miramichi River or slow dancing with her on a Saturday night. George was committed, devoted, loving, and caring. He truly enjoyed living and laughing. He often teased and made jokes. He made Twila laugh every day.
George loved his family, and they dearly loved him. He will be missed.
Family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM at Bell’s Funeral Home, Miramichi, New Brunswick on Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Family will deliver remarks in tribute at 7:00 PM. Private burial and ceremony will take place at the family plot in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Boom Road, New Brunswick. Remembrances may be made to New Brunswick Right to Life.
