George Thomas Briggs1930-2015George Thomas Briggs, husband of Ruby (Martin) Briggs, of Chatham Head, passed away on Saturday evening, September 12th, 2015 at the age of 84. Born in Newcastle, NB, he was the son of the late Allen and Margaret (Regan) Briggs. George was retired from working construction as a laborer. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10 and also a member of the Korean Veteran’s Association. He served in the Korean War with the 2nd Battalion RCR’s. Besides his wife, Ruby, George is survived by three daughters: Rhonda MacDonald, Cathy Briggs and Lorraine Briggs, all of Winnipeg, MB; six sons: James (Marilyn) Briggs of Chatham Head, Jason Briggs of Winnipeg, MB, Mark (Lynn) Briggs of Winnipeg, MB, Jeffrey (Eileen) Briggs of Newcastle, NB, Shawn Briggs of Douglastown, NB and Tommy Briggs of St. Margaret’s, NB; two sisters: Winnifred (Jim) Carson of Douglastown, NB, and Carmel Estey of Calgary, AB; one brother: Art (Barbara) Briggs of Doug lastown, NB; numerous grand and great grand-children and several nieces and nephews. George is predeceased by two sisters: Theresa Briggs and Katherine Gallant; four brothers: James, Edward, Jimmy and Pat Briggs.Visitation will be held at Bell’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 16th from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Chatham Head, on Thursday, September 17th at 11 AM with Father Paul LeBlanc officiating. Burial will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Nelson-Miramichi. In George’s memory, as expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to a memorial of one’s choice.
